The American Library Association announced the top books, video and audiobooks for children and young adults – including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards – at its Midwinter Meeting in Dallas. A list of all the 2012 award winners can be found here.

Ladera library is open 22.5 hours per week. Each class visits the library every week to listen to Mrs. Lauterman read, discuss books, learn library and research skills, and check-out books. Additionally, the library is available before school, after school, and at lunch for students to exchange library books, read, or study.

Reading Counts!

Scholastic Reading Counts! Ladera Elementary participates in Scholastic Reading Counts! It is a lexile based, independent reading program for K-12 students, proven to develop reading skills, improve proficiency, and raise test scores. The program matches students to the best books based on their abilities and interests. It allows students to make and meet individual goals. Ladera students may take quizzes on over 51,000 titles through Reading Counts!. To help search for a title for your child please access Quizlist Interactive at quizlist.net.

Reading Incentive - Monthly Rewards for December Reading

Dragon winners are the classroom in each grade that contains the most students that met their monthly reading goal for the month.

Kindergarten: Mr. Sturgeon's class has earned the dragon this month

1st Grade: Mrs. Zeug's class has earned the dragon again this month

2nd Grade: Mrs. ZeMan's class has earned the dragon again this month

3rd Grade: Mrs. Dunn's class has earned the dragon again this month

4th Grade: Mr. Mullan's class has earned the dragon this month

5th Grade: Mrs. Oppenheim's Class has earned the dragon this month
