Ladera Dragons String Orchestra
Instrumental Music Program Presented through the cooperative efforts of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, Conejo Valley Unified School District and the Conejo Recreation & Park District.
In the past thirty years, these cooperative efforts have through it’s vital interest in promoting and expanding cultural activities in the school, sponsored instrumental music programs to enrich the lives of your children. Instrumental music can enhance your child’s educational experience through creative self-expression, emotional release and satisfaction, discipline of achievement, cooperating and performing with fellow students. Musicians will perform throughout the year with a final performance at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
Instructor
Marisa McLeod, violinist, a native of Newark, New Jersey, began her studies of the violin at the age of three. She received her Bachelor of Music degree at Montclair State University, and her Master of Music degree from the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music. She received her Suzuki certification from the School for Strings in New York City and the Eastman School under Anastasia Jempelis. She has performed with the Anderson String Quartet for 10 years. She continues to perform with the California Philharmonic, Santa Barbara Symphony and other orchestras around Southern California. She teaches violin and viola in her home studio and conducts a Junior String Orchestra in Santa Barbara.

Payment Schedule
1st Semester - September 26 - January 23 (15 weeks)
2nd Semester - January 23 - May 23 (15 weeks)
Each semester = $165
($5.00 ticket included for the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza All District Strings Festival)
All payments should be made through the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley. Please go to www.hilcrestarts.com or call the office @ (805) 381-2747 for assistance. For security reasons, we prefer not to accept checks, if need be, make payable to ACCV. A partial waiver of payment will be considered in cases of financial hardship, please contact the Arts council. Due to the low cost of the program, school calendar conflicts will not be made up unless the instructors schedule permits.
Classes will begin on Monday, September 26, 2011
Student Eligibility
All interested students in grades 3 - 5. Students must maintain class work and be responsible for any work missed during class.
Behavior Standards.
Music students are expected to conform to acceptable standards of behavior, just as in any other school activity. If a students displays unacceptable behavior, he/she will be warned and the parents will be phoned. I there is a seconded occurrence , the student will be sent back to the classroom for the lesson. On the third instance, the student will be expelled from the instrumental music program. No make-0up lessons or refunds will be given for behavior-related incidence.
Parental Responsibility
Students in the early years of instrumental music study, need parental encouragement, involvement and guidance. At least 20 minutes per day, five days a week is needed for practice. Parents and students should discuss the best time and place for daily practice so that the student is not distracted by other activities.
Instruments and books
Once you have decided on you instrument; violin, viola and cello, students and parents are responsible for providing instruments, equipment and the method book. Supplemental material will be provided by the instructor at no extra charge. Students may purchase or rent instruments from the following music stores. Please take care when buying an inexpensive instrument. These music stores only rent and sell quality brand names.
